I love Voices of the Void, that's why I need to wait for 1.0

VOTV dropped it's 0.6 update about 10 days ago, as soon as I realized I was reading the changelog and eager to dive in. Then, as I got overwhelmed by new features, changes, and secrets or news before I even clicked download, I was reminded why I don't touch games in early access anymore. So, let me go on a spiel for a moment here.

The usual cycle of an early access game is one I'm all too familiar with, them being all the rage on steam for the longest time. It's about the peaks and valleys, moments of downtime as the devs are working hard punctuated by big, flashy updates that drastically shake up the gameplay, systems, areas, or really any number of things. Then as the players explore and experience the update, it gets balanced and more additions at a steady pace, perhaps petering off at times at least in mood, before eventually another big number drops and everyone's eating it up again.

Wait, my bad, I mixed up my spiel about early access with my spiel about live service.

Which, I mean need I say more at that point? It's not a bad thing, far from it, there's in fact more honesty and genuine fun to be had in early access than in a live service and it's an experience that I will not deride.

But at the same time one can't expect every player to remain in that environment forever, and if your interest ends before the game releases. Well, what are you actually gonna do when 1.0 drops?

I have a delibrate limit I place on myself for Live Service games, only one main game at a time, and if I want to play another it needs a caveat. I.e I only play it with friends or on stream days. There's too many games in the world to experience that, for me personally, I would rather play things with a definitive end point so I can move on and keep the novelty afloat. One day I'll find something I want to play forever, but I haven't yet.

So, as I look at VOTV and debate diving back in. I realize, I should just wait. EternityDev ain't going anywhere and 1.0 will inevitably be a big change in the game anyway. Lets wait until then to have our dive into the unique sci-fi horror of the setting.

So... Well I don't know who exactly writing this for, maybe someone who'll have a new appreciation for a game they're currently following in early access? Really this is just me, in my usual windbag manner, explaining why I'm not currently face deep in [REDACTED] despite what my enjoyment of the game might indicate.
