Xenoblade Trilogy Reviews
Finally finished the main story of Xenoblade Chronicles, Definitive. It's a solid JRPG. Combat takes a while to click but when it does it's satisfying enough. Just make sure to pace yourself with those sidequests to avoid burnout. Story is very solid, though I would say nothing groundbreaking. That said, the characters are wonderful, world is imaginative, and story beats memorable. What more could you want?
Well you could want a better way to handle sidequests than manually adjusting a clock hour by hour from random spawns but that's what sequels are for
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 completed. Not counting the standalone DLC thing. In the end, it really only stands as a sequel to the first. I wouldn't recommend it alone, as the first in my eyes is far more impactful to play through. However as a game it's wonderful. Using the gacha party system to spice up your playthrough and add variety, while being carried by it's massively endearing cast. More of a character piece in the end, where the first was perhaps more about the world and storyline. Voice acting is hit and miss, but I wouldn't call it bad by a long shot. Just misdirected sometimes. Also the tutorials are godawful and actively harm the game if you don't experiment. The real joy in combat only comes if you go beyond the baseline.
All in all. Play Xenoblade definitive first. If you liked that, and want more, then you will absolutely find something worth the time in Xenoblade 2. Especially knowing 3's coming along soon enough.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 beaten. After something like 125 hours.
Hell of a game. Amazing story, some of the best and emotionally mature character interactions I've seen in media. Combat system that essentially perfects what was started by 1 and 2. Absolutely killer soundtrack though that was a given with this series. And overall artistic design that hit a great middle ground between the more real XC1 and more anime XC2.
