System Shock Remake Review

System Shock Remake cleared. A stellar effort to update the game in a way that stays true to the originals themes and design while adding modern conveniences, gameplay, and generally making it infinitely more accessible to those wanting to experience "the original system shock." Which is itself a super valuable thing to have. It's actually for that reason I'm not gonna dwell on gameplay balance or what may or may not be a good change. It's often said "don't remake classics, remake things that could be done better." And this is a prime example of that. The original, while fantastic in it's own right, is extremely dated and hard to control by modern standards. While also being very obtuse and new player unfriendly. This remake keeps some of that. Having zero objective markers or the like. But cyberspace is less of a headache to navigate, the shooter is now standard FPS which meant enemies could be more exciting to fight as well, inventory is kept the same yet still simplified to interact with. All of this on top of keeping the station design mostly the same means that it is now entirely viable to recommend someone play System Shock before System Shock 2, and that is worth praise all on it's own. Let alone the originals atmosphere and SHODAN as the villain being simply fantastic. If you've played any of the 'shocks' or even Prey or Dishonored or other immersive sims. You owe it to yourself to play this game. Even if you've already played OG Shock, this is a fantastic way to re-experience it.
